Tunis hosts first North Africa and Middle East meeting of the World Aids Campaign
Tunis, August 29,2008–On August 27 and 28, 2008 , Tunis hosted the first meeting of the World Aids Campaign(WAC) www.worldaidscampaign.info, destined to identify civil society organizations in the North Africa Middle East region , to combat the AIDS epidemic.
The event which was organized jointly by WAC and the Tunis section of the Tunisian association of fight against sexually transmissible diseases (ATL MST), gathered 20 associations representing 12 North African countries, including Tunisia, Sudan, Jordan, Bahrein, Lebanon, Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Saoudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt and Oman. Four Tunisian non governmental associations took part in the event.
Under the slogan, ” Stop AIDS . Keep the promise”, the meeting was aimed at boosting the efforts of NGO’s in the region specialised in combatting the epidemics by identifying ways of gathering the support of decision makers in the region, making sure that promises and pledges are kept , as well as increasing awareness for increased protection against the disease.
