Fourth edition of “oases marathon” will link Tozeur to Djerba
Tunis, November 17, 2008- The fourth edition of Tunisia’s pedestrian rally, also known as the “oases marathon”, was launched on Sunday in Tozeur. The race which gathers some 500 participants from Tunisia, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany Algeria, Morocco, Tahiti and other countries, will cross 4 governorates, namely those of Tozeur, Kebili, Tataouine and Medenine; it will also take the runners through some 30 villages, including Ras El Ain, Ksar Ghilane, El Hamma, Douz, Doouiret, Chenini, Houmt Souk, Midoun, Guellala and Ajim.
Participants will cross the marathon’s finish line on November 23, in Djerba.
In the words of the organiser of the race, Mr Azdine Yaacoub, “the race is an opportunity to promote sports tourism, gastronomy tourism and Saharan tourism in one go”.
The event will be covered by several Tunisian and international media, including Eurosport, France Television, and TV5. Representatives of RFI, RTL2 and Europe 1, major French radio stations, will also report on the different stages of this original race for their listeners.
