Sponsored by the Trade and Handicrafts Ministry, the event aims at encouraging Tunisians to buy more traditional products.

40 tradesmen from eight governorates including Tunis, la Manouba, Sousse, Gabès, Jendouba, Béja, Zaghouan and Tataouine are taking part in this campaign.

A wide range of “chechias” is being showcased to potential customers who will be granted a discount of 5 to 20%.

On this occasion, the National Handicraft Organization will hold a promotional campaign to guide citizens towards the various outlets where the campaign is being held.

The Tunisian chechia dates back five hundred years ago, to the time when the first Andalusian Arabs arrived from Spain. A cousin of the European beret, the head piece comes in several types and colors, however only the Tunisian chechia is red.

Every year on March 16 Tunisia celebrates the National Traditional Industries and National Dress Day, during which civil servants don traditional garments including the chechia.
