Tunisian international fair showcases vitality of agricultural sector
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- Organized at the initiative of the Tunisian Agriculture and Fisheries Union (UTAP) under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Tunisia is hosting from November 18 to 22 the 10th international exhibition of Agriculture, Farming machinery and Fisheries (SIAMAP 2009) at El Kram Exhibition Hall.
About 285 Tunisian and foreign enterprises from 17 countries, namely France, Italy, Germany, Spain, England, Portugal, Belgium, Norway, the United States, Serbia, Ireland, Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Egypt and Syria, are taking part in the event.
Cattle breeding, crop production, agro-tourism, agricultural machinery and farming products in addition to a large presence of animals such as rabbits, sheep, horses, birds and rare aquatic fish are also showcased.
The fair also comprises a stand for children and a book section which focuses on issues around food, the world of plants, animals, cooking and farming; the stand triggered a great number of young visitors.
Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the fair also includes stands to encourage investment and launch projects.
For the first time, a stand is dedicated to women’s investments in agriculture, which marks the increasing presence of women in the sector. Women organizations from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania, are represented in the stand.
Another feature that attracted visitors is the presence of a cooking stand which focuses on the cooking of plants and vegetables.
In an interview with “TUNISIAONLINENEWS”, Mr. Mabrouk Bahri , President of the Tunisian Agriculture and Fisheries Union said the Fair is proof of the success and vitality of the Tunisian agricultural sector namely in cattle breeding, biological agriculture and fishing.
On his part, Mr. Hassan Ahmed the agricultural attaché of US Embassy in Tunisia and the regional officer in charge of the North African region at the US department of agriculture, said that it is the first time that the department is taking part in the fair adding that its participation will help Tunisian farmers boost productivity, improve farming, provide technical assistance to Tunisian farmers, as well as make better known new US farming technologies.
He added that the aim is to share mutual benefits in the agricultural sector and to boost Tunisian American cooperation in the coming years.
