A Tunisian architect is building the largest palace in Central Asia
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- Ajmi Mimita, a Tunisian architect is currently building the largest hotel palace in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, after winning an international bid for the building of a gigantic integrated project involving a hotel and a congress hall in Turkmenistan’s capital, according to leaders.com.tn.
The palace which is destined to host in March 2010, the Summit of the Community of Independent States will cover some 7 hectares and will comprise some 100,000 square metres of buildings loved in a sea of greenery.
“This project is the result of a team work which brings together a team of Tunisian architects and the engineers of the French building company Bouygues” said Mimita, who travels at least once a month to Ashgabat to supervise work on the construction site.

The project which definitely bears a strong Tunisian style, was selected among a number of other architectural projects from all over the world.
When it comes to architecture, Ajmi Mimita, is not a newcomer. The man has designed and built a number of prestigious hotels in Tunisia including among others, Aziza Hotel in Hammamet, the Plaza in Djerba, the Concorde at Les Berges du lac in Tunis, the Dar Chraiet Museum in Tozeur, as well as the Tunisian Embassy in Ryadh, Saudi Arabia. In association with Bouygues, he also designed the Tunisian National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (INSAT).
Mimita is also confident that Tunisian architects are capable of meeting the challenges of the highly competitive world of architecture.
“Tunisian architecture cabinets are replete with talented young architects eager to display their skills, similarly to the team involved in the building of the Ashgabat palace who is determined to show the genius of Tunisian architecture” he said.
Modest to the point of humility, Mimita acknowledges but one quality, daring.
