Draft bill relative to the creation of a “language village” is passed

Tunis, April 3, 2008-(TunisiaOnline)--The Chamber of representatives, approved on Thursday, a draft bill relative to the creation of a “language village”.

The "language village” aims at replacing language trainings initially carried out abroad for higher education language students, after the inefficiency, and high cost of the latter were demonstrated.

The language village which started work two years ago, is destined to expand its services to the larger public who will be able to benefit from foreign language tuition, at a cost. The move aims at giving the village an increased financial autonomy.

In his response to the deputies, the Minister of higher education and scientific research , Mr Lazhar Bououni said that the village will have its own administrative status and will function throughout the year welcoming groups of students of different levels and from different tertiary institutions. Partnership agreements with several foreign American and British universities have been made and native speaking visiting tutors as well as specialized Tunisian teachers, will carry out the training. Exchange with foreign students is also on the agenda.

State of the art pedagogical equipment and the latest cutting edge technologies will be used to hone the students' linguistic skills. Leisure and cultural activities in the foreign language studied will also represent an important part of the learners' activities.

After  successful completion of their training, students will be handed a degree which will count towards the students' final graduation from university.
