Tunisian Karate champions net gold in Rotterdam
Tunis, April 10, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--Tunisian kyokushinkai karatekas (combat karate) won 2 gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal at the 8th Rotterdam open in the Netherlands.
The Tunisian team also won the tournament's Cup, thus confirming Tunisia 's emergence in this discipline.
To note, that such prestigious teams as France, Germany and Russia weren't able to win a single medal during the event.
Tunisia 's gold medals were won respectively by Imed Souii and Chokri Nafti, whereas the silver medal was won by Skander Youssefi , who could have clinched gold if not for an unfortunate injury. The bronze medal was won by the same Imed Souii, one of the rising stars in Tunisian combat karate.
Another confirmation of Tunisia 's rise on the karate scene, came when Sadok Kouka, the president of the Tunisian Kyokushinkai federation and a former world champion, refereed several combats during the event.
