Tunis, April 12, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--A major Italian film producer, Mr Mario Cotone who is jointly producing a movie entitled the “Door of the Wind” (La porta del vento), by the filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore, is currently in Tunisia where large parts of the movie are being shot and produced.

During his meeting with the Tunisian Minister of culture and heritage preservation, Mr Mohamed El Aziz Ben Achour, the producer expressed his willingness to set up other projects in Tunisia , which he said was a “successful destination of the top of the range cinema industry, thanks to its stimulating political and cultural climate, to its beauty and diversity, as well as to its natural sites and the high artistic and technical potential of its young people”.

Mr Cotone added that all these qualities enable Tunisia to become a vibrant cinematographic pole in the Euro- Mediterranean region, as well as at the international level.

On his part, the Tunisian Minister stressed the various vanguard measures taken over the last years to promote this promising sector of activity, and notably the setting up of a one stop window destined to speed up shooting authorizations made by foreign filmmakers in Tunisia .

Several blockbusters such as george Lucas' “Star Wars”, the late Minghella's “The English Patient” and many othermovies were not only shot on location in Tunisia but also produced in Tunisian studios in Hammamet and Gammarth.
