President Ben Ali congratulates Mr. Berlusconi on winning Italy 's legislative elections

Tunis , April 15, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--President Ben Ali sent a message of congratulations on Tuesday to Mr. Silvio Berlusconi on his winning the Italian legislative elections as the leader of the centre-right “People for Freedom coalition”.

In his message, President Ben Ali expresses his commitment “to further strengthen the privileged relations of friendship and fruitful co-operation between Tunisia and Italy , as well as to intensify consultation and bilateral dialogue in all sectors, for the benefit of the two friendly peoples”.

Italy is Tunisia 's second trade partner after France . It is the third time Mr Berlusconi is elected as President of the Council of Ministers in Italy .

US Library of Congress symposium celebrates Tunisia’s Code of Personal Status

-August 12, 2006- President Ben Ali reaffirms Tunisia’s commitment to the code of personal status, a pioneering legislation adopted in 1956, which has granted Tunisian women equal rights with men. The code has banned polygamy, forced marriages and repudiation.
