1000 French travel agents visit island of Djerba

Tunis , April 15, 2008 (TunisiaOnline) --The French tourism market which is witnessing a slow but constant growth in Tunisia has reached some 1,335 000 visitors in 2007. In the Arab world, only Morocco is doing better attracting some 1,450 000 tourists in 2007.

It is with the aim of better positioning itself on the French market that the Tunisian national tourism board (ONTT), has recently invited 1000 travel agents working for the French tour operator ‘Marmara'. In conclave in the land of lotus eaters, the travel agents are both discovering the island as well as devising ways to adapt to the rapidly changing tastes of French tourists.

With some 40 million tourists, including 13 million who travel abroad, Tunisia represents the 5 th destination of French holiday goers.

Plans are currently afoot to explore other niches such as the visit of Tunisia 's lesser known regions, cultural tourism and health tourism, as well as increasing the rate of Tunis air flights to Marseilles , Nice and Paris , without forgetting to develop charter flights and week end round trips.

‘Marmara', France 's major TO, boasts some 1 million clients in France , it is also the biggest TO on Tunisia as 20% of French tourists visiting the country have booked through the TO. Among its novelties is the electronic ticket which allows the customer to head straight for registration. It was recently certified ISO 9001 in the field of air transportation.
