Jazzman William Parker gives dazzling performance in Carthage
Tunis , April 15, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--After Gilberto Gil and Liz Mac Comb, it was the turn of William Parker one of the world's greatest jazz figures and the worthy heir of Charlie Mingus, to enlighten the “Jazz in Carthage“ scene with a dazzling performance of free jazz.
Surrounded by his musicians including Eri Yamamoto at the keyboards, Hamid Dsake at he drums and Leena Conquest's vocals, William Parker gave the public an unforgettable performance of his “Raining on the moon”, blending African and oriental notes with a rare mastery.
The distinctive warmth of Parker's music interacted very fittingly with his citations of James Baldwin's poetry whom the musician often paid tribute to during the performance. Often very discreet on stage but nevertheless always present, the American jazzman allowed his musicians to freely interact during rare moments of grace.
A concert his fans in Carthage will not forget and which will enhance the quality of this unique festival.
