Tunisia receives United Nations 2008 Public Service Award
Tunis, April 20, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--After Tunisia 's recent favourable rankings in the latest 2007/2008 Davos WEF global competitiveness survey, the country has received yet another international distinction consecrating the soundness of its policies.
The members of the experts committee of the United Nations public administration have attributed to Tunisia the 2008 UN Public Service Award of excellence and innovation for the quality of the services of its public administration.
The award is the highest international distinction given to foster and promote the best administrative services among states.
The official award ceremony will take place in New York on June 23, 2008, on the occasion of the International Civil Service Day.
The Award which was set up in 2000, by the UN Economic and Social Council, rewards Tunisia 's strategic choices to modernize its administration, while adapting to the oncoming imperatives of the knowledge society, as well as the digital revolution.
President Ben Ali's item 11 of his 2004 presidential program, relative to the modernization of Tunisia's administration, aimed at promoting a new approach whereby the freedom to undertake will become prevalent thanks to the setting up by 2009 of books of rule in replacement of authorizations.
Today, in Tunisia electronic administration is gaining ground and any administrative form can be delivered from any administrative office, thus avoiding costly and time consuming trips.
