TUNISIAONLINENEWS- Horse farming amateurs were able to attend the annual market for the sale of under 2 years old purebred Arabian and English mares on Friday, in Sidi Thabet located in Governorate of Ariana.
Held annually in May each year, the market for the sale of purebred mares is organized by Tunisia’s National Foundation for Horse Breeding Improvement (FNARC). This year some 57 purebred Arabian mares, will be sold on auction in accordance with international criteria.
These include specifying the origins of the mares, genetic improvement operations they have undergone and the performance of their ancestors in previous races all of which is included in a guide distributed during the sale.
The event comes days before the Grand Prix of the President of the Republic for horseracing, scheduled this year on Sunday, May 23, 2010.
An event which incidentally is also destined to showcases Tunisia’s remarkable, albeit little known, achievements in the sector of the production of purebred Arab mares.

The creation of Tunisia’s National Foundation for Horse Breeding Improvement (FNARC), launched in 1988 was meant as a follow up of the Foundation of National stables, whose existence dates back to 1913.
Among the advantages of FNARC, preparation and monitoring of development programs of horse farming as well as the mentoring and encouragement of farmers and genetic improvement.
Most of the mares belong to private farmers and originate from stables in Sidi Thabet, but also in Battan, Rakkada, Meknassi and Ben Guerdane.
