Film: Nasri Hajjaj’s “As the Poet Said” retraces Mahmoud Darwich’s life and work
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- The Palestinian film director Nasri Hajjaj will be part of the 5th edition of the international documentary film festival “doc à Tunis” with a new movie entitled “As the poet said.”
The movie explores the life of the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwich, who lived many years in Tunisia which he often referred to as his “second homeland”, a homeland he movingly sang in a poem he composed just before leaving Tunis for the West Bank.

The 65 minute movie is an attempt to approach the world of Mahmoud Darwich, where the camera takes the viewer to the cities, homes, theaters, and personalities who were familiar with the poet.
The film is also a journey through Darwich’s work, featuring his own poetry readings as well as those of other poets reciting his poetry .
The new film which is produced and directed by Nasri Hajjaj, is photographed by Jocelyn Gabriel Abu. Music and editing is carried out respectively by Hiba Al Kawas, Michelle Ttiyan and Marcello Daloizio.
Nasri Hajjaj was born in “Ein Helwe”, a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Following a 20 year career as a freelance journalist, he turned to film, with a series of documentaries. His 2007 documentary “the shadow of absence” won a bronze “Muhr Award” at the 2007 Dubai International Film Festival.
In an interview with “TUNISIAONLINENEWS”, Nasri Hajjaj announced that his film will be screened on April 3, 2010 at the Tunis Municipal Theater, adding that he has endeavored to present the life and work of Mahmoud Darwich’s as well as the meaning of life and death, and home and exile in Darwich’s poetry.
