TUNISIAONLINENEWS- A regional strategy was recently implemented in the governorate of Gabès to increase the production of pomegranates.

It also includes an annual program to modernize the plantations, maintain the new pomegranates and expand the areas devoted to pomegranates to Mareth, Gabès Medina, Hamma and other delegations, by ensuring the necessary funds and providing effective guidance to farmers.
Production contracts will be set forth with farmers and exporters, and seasonal credits will be granted to professionals.
The means of packaging of products for export will improve efforts towards strengthening its transport abroad thus improving the product’s visibility on new markets.
The governorate of Gabès is the country’s largest producer of pomegranates. It also has the largest amount of pomegranate trees in the country with 1,1 million trees. Gabes produced 27, 000 tons of pomegranates in 2009.
