Heritage Month opens in Roman site of ‘Oudhna’
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- The 19th annual Heritage Month this year will be held under the theme ''Heritage protection is the responsibility of all''.
The opening of the event which coincides with the International Day for Monuments and Sites took place on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Roman archaeological site of ‘Oudhna’ in the governorate of Ben Arous.
The opening included different cultural programs such as live music, arts and equestrian games, in addition to craft shows showing the richness and diversity of Tunisia’s heritage.
On this occasion, visits were organized to Roman site of ‘Oudhna’ where visitors were able to find out about recent discoveries in this area and to visit the top section of the Capitol that includes mosaics workshops and traditional wind instruments (the ‘nay’, the ‘zokra’ and the ‘fdawi’).

Besides, the guests listened to a brief speech about the achievements and development projects concerning ‘oudhna’, one of the country’s most promising archaeological site that is expected to revive the heritage and promote cultural tourism.
Chairing the event Mr Abderraouf El Basti, Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation, said that ‘Oudhna’ was selected due to its importance as an historic site and the beauty of the surrounding countryside .
The Minister also noted that the safeguard of the national heritage is the responsibility of all Tunisians as mentioned in the slogan of this edition. In this context, he announced that the ministry is preparing a series of new preventive measures to protect the relics against thievery and illegal exploitation.
