Kampala AU Summit: President Ben Ali reaffirms Tunisia’s commitment to promote joint African action
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- In an address read on his behalf on Monday by Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Kamel Morjane on the occasion of the 15th African Union Summit in Kampala, Uganda, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali reiterated “Tunisia’s commitment to promote joint African action” with a view to enhance solidarity and complementarity among African countries.
In his address to the Summit held under the theme “Maternal, Infant, and Child Health and Development in Africa”, President Ben Ali said that health in Tunisia is “a fundamental element of development”, adding that in line with the Millennium Development Goals, the country is striving to reduce the maternal mortality rate to 20 per 100,000 childbirths by 2014.
“Many regions of the continent are still torn by tensions and armed conflicts, which hampers their development process and impedes the implementation of their programs” he said, adding that he was convinced that the African Union’s proclamation of 2010, a “Year for Peace and Security in Africa” offers a renewed opportunity to “promote security and stability for all African peoples”.
