Tunis, May 5, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--Brazil's Thomas Belluci has won the 2008 “Tunis Tennis Open” on Sunday and with it the 125,000 dollar first prize, attached to the event.
Belluci also won 26 places on his previous ranking, enabling him to enter the top 100 players. His opponent, the Serbian player Dusan Vemic whom Belluci defeated 6/2, 6/4 , also won 23 places and is currently ranked 152 by the tennis professional association (ATP).
Over the years, the Tunis Open has become a ‘challenger event', which has been included in the tennis professional association's world circuit.
To note that ‘Challenger events' are the last events before qualifying to the world's top tournaments.
The Tunis Open is also considered by specialists as an excellent preparation for “Roland Garros” in Paris, both with respect to its climatic condition and to its clay surface. It is scheduled between the Barcelona Open and the Rome Open, and is increasingly attracting ambitious and talented clay court players from all over the world.
The First prize was awarded to the young Brazilian player by Mr Rafaa Dkhil, the Minister of Communication and Relations with the Chambers of Deputies and Advisors.
