At least 35 Tunisian sportsmen and women will take part in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

Tunis , May 8, 2008 (TunisiaOnline) --The Tunisian participation at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, was discussed on Tuesday during a work meeting between Mr Abdallah Kaabi, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Physical activity, representatives of the of the National Olympic Committee (CNOT) and the concerned Tunisian sports federations, as well as Tunisian representatives of continental and international sports federations and structures.

The minister said that “great efforts had been undertaken to prepare Tunisian athletes and ensure their qualification to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games”. He added that the final list of Tunisian competitors had not yet been set, given that qualification trials in some sports disciplines had not yet been completed. 30 athletes in 14 disciplines have already ensured their qualification, he said and five more might be added to the list following qualification tournaments in athletics, weightlifting, judo, swimming and handball.

10 Tunisian sports federations, namely those of athletics, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, judo, swimming, fencing, cycling, weightlifting, and handisports, took part in the meeting.
