Tunis hosts the first African “Water week” conference.

Tunis, March 27, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--From March 26 to 28, 2008 Tunis will host the first African “Water Week” which will gather around one main theme: how to boost water security for Africa's socio- economic development. The event which is organized by the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Council of African Ministers Council of Water (AMCOW), will purport to find adequate solutions to the problems related to water scarcity which hinder the socio- economic development of the populations of the region.

During 3 days a host of experts, strategists and well-known speakers will try and thrash out the ways and means likely to take advantage of the experiences inherent to water security throughout the world.

Observers note that one of the major issues that the “Water Week”  conference will address is whether or not the UN Millennium will be partially or fully met by 2015.On the other hand, the Tunis event will be an opportunity to throw the foundations for the next African Summit of Heads of States and governments on water resources and water purification which will be held in July 2008 as Africa's contribution to 5 th World Water Forum due to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2009.
