Mrs Ben Ali signs the editorial of the “Voice of Arab Women” Magazine
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- Tunisia’s First Lady Mrs Leila Ben Ali, who is the Chairwoman of the Arab Women Organisation (AWO), signed the editorial of the “Voice of Arab Women” Magazine published by AWO.
In her editorial, Mrs Ben Ali writes that the conditions of Tunisian women are a significant indicator of their progress and modernity.
She also stressed the importance of grounding women’s rights in the Arab world in a universal reference system and international conventions and pacts related to women’s rights citing the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
Mrs. Leila Ben Ali also hails the commitment of all Arab States to complete the overall reforms launched at the Tunis Arab Summit in 2004, protect human rights and develop Arab women’s role and status in society.
The First Lady recommends widening the scope of implementation of international references in this area, pointing to the importance of exerting more efforts at the cultural, media and legislative levels to narrow the gap between legislation and reality to make women’s rights a reality of everyday life.
“Since the 2004 Tunis Summit, women’s rights have become a strategic and irreversible Arab choice” she writes.
