President Ben Ali chairs cabinet meeting on major national issues
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali chaired, on Wednesday morning, a cabinet meeting which examined Tunisia’s adherence to the Convention on the physical protection of nuclear material, one of the required conditions set up by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the setting up in Tunisia, of a nuclear plant to produce electricity.
The meeting also approved a draft law providing for the approval of Tunisia’s adherence to the World Health Organisation (WHO) frame -convention to combat smoking, which includes a set of measures pertaining to the reduction of tobacco demand and supply, broadening access to efficient and complete programmes of education and sensitisation to the dangers of tobacco dangers to health, in addition to the global prohibition of tobacco advertising, and illegal marketing of tobacco substances.
Several other items relative to the country’s highway and railway infrastructure, as well as energy projects were also examined.
The meeting also listened to an exposé on the “2009 Geo-Strategic Report”, worked out by the Tunisian Strategic Studies Institute, which sheds light on the repercussions of the world crisis in light of Tunisia’s interests.
The cabinet meeting finally examined the donations recorded on the occasion of Tunisia’s National Solidarity Day. Since its inception in 1994 when it received the donations of some 182,000 donors, the Tunisian Solidarity Fund received contributions from 5,866,408 citizens in 2009, testifying to the immense solidarity drive that prompted Tunisians from all social categories to contribute to the Fund.
In this respect, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali thanked Tunisians for their generous contributions and their attachment to one of the country’s major civilisational choices since the Change.
