Sousse to host international symposium on dialogue of cultures and religions
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- An international symposium on the "The dialogue of cultures and religions in literatures and arts " will take place on April 22 to April 24, 2010 in the governorate of Sousse under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Bechir Tekkari, and Mr. Boubaker El Akhzouri, Minister of Religious Affairs.
The Symposium which is organized by “The Centre for Research and Studies in the dialogue of civilization and Comparative Religions”, and the “Ben Ali Chair for the Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions”, will gather a number of leading intellectuals and academics, from Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia as well as guests from France and Spain.
Parties will deal with several topics and current issues such as the role of arts and literatures in establishing a dialogue between Islam and the West.

They will also address the role Arab novels and poetry, as well as theater and cinema in deepening the dialogue between civilizations and religions.
Participants will also discuss in this event the impact of the dialogue of civilizations on famous Arab folk narratives such as “One Thousand and One Nights” and “Season of Migration to the North” as well as on modern Saudi novels and Syrian modern poetry.
The main lectures are: "Dialogue: What? How? Why?” which will be delivered by Mr. Mohamed Hassine Fantar, the Holder of the Ben Ali Chair for the Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions from Tunisia, "Arab culture and accepting the other" by Dr Ali Abu Zaid from Syria. In addition Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Amr, a scholar from Saudi Arabia will deliver a presentation on "Dialogue between nations through literature and the arts: Promotion and obstacles".
The symposium also includes a poetry evening that will gather Syrian, Saudi, Spanish and French poets such as Taoufik Alahmad, Jean-Claude Villain in addition to an oriental music performance by the Higher Institute of Music in Sousse.
The Centre for Research and Studies in Dialogue of civilization and Comparative Religions was established on June 27th 2005 in Sousse. The center is overseen by the Ministry of higher education, scientific research and technology, and the Ministry of Religious affairs.
Its missions include carrying out in-depth researches and scientific studies in the field of inter-civilization dialogue and religions in addition to organizing events, conferences and scientific meetings in collaboration with national and international institutions and authorities.
