Tunisia: restructuring of olive oil sector underway
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- A working session dedicated to the restructuring of the olive oil sector was held on Tuesday in Tunis. The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdessalem Mansour, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mabrouk Bahri, president of the Tunisian Agriculture and Fisheries Union (UTAP) and representatives from the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA).
The meeting focused on the importance of the olive sector in the country’s economy, basing itself on a study which recommends several practical initiatives to enhance the sector and increase its role in the boosting of Tunisia’s economy. Mr Mansour said that the measures proposed would be considered.

Among the measures taken to restructure the sector, Tunisia recently created a special fund for bottled olive oil following the latest presidential measures that aim at establishing a canning and packaging system in line with the promotion of Tunisian olive oil at the global level.
