Tunisia takes part in 15th African Union Summit in Kampala
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- On behalf of President Ben Ali, Foreign Minister, Mr. Kamel Morjane headed the Tunisian delegation to the 15th ordinary African Union (AU) Summit, held on July 25-27, 2010, in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
The Summit works turned on the theme of “Maternal, Infant and Child Health and Development in Africa.”
During the Summit, the heads of State and Government looked at several political, economic and social issues as part of the joint African action.
Mr. Morjane met with Libya’s Leader Mouammar Kadhafi, Chief of the Libyan Revolution, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Gabon’s President Ali Bongo Ondimba, Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe, Tanzania’s President Jakaya Kikwete, as well as. Ahmed Nadhif, Egyptian Prime Minister, Moulaye Ould Mohamed Lagdhaf, Mauritanian Prime Minister, and Joseph Boakai, Liberia’s Vice President.
These meetings were an opportunity during which the Foreign Minister extended President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali’s regards to these countries’ leaders who, in turn, extended their regards and consideration to the Head of State and paid him tribute for his commitment to strengthen the foundations of the joint African action and energize the solidarity and complementarity relations between the African countries in a climate where security, peace and development prevail.
Mr. Kamel Morjane also examined with Amr Moussa, the Arab League Secretary-General, and Jean Ping, chairman of the AU Commission, the progress of Tunisia’s relations with these two organizations.
He also met with foreign ministers from Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Egypt, Mali, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Congo, Ethiopia, Benin and Cameroon.
