World Cup 2026: A Major Upset Against a Tunisian Opponent

Good news for Tunisians but bad news for the Dutch, the third opponents of the Eagles of Carthage, in World Cup Group F.

It is Matthijs de Ligt (26 years old, 13 appearances and 1 goal in the Premier League this season), who has been ruled out according to the statement released this Friday by his club Manchester United.

This comes after a back operation undergone by his central defender, kept off the pitch since November 30 last year. The Dutchman will not return before the start of the 2026-2027 season, the Manchester club notes.

On his side, Barave commented on Instagram: « After six months of treatment and tireless efforts to return to the highest level, the operation was the only option left. I am disappointed not to have been able to help the team these past six months and, of course, to miss the World Cup ».
