Agriculture and Weather: Farmers Urged to Stay Vigilant

Written by: Adel Khelifi on July 4, 2026

Due to the forecast weather disruptions, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries called on Thursday for all stakeholders in the agricultural sector to be vigilant and to take the necessary precautions.

Indeed, the weather situation will be favorable, starting Thursday afternoon, for the appearance of storm cells, which will be accompanied by rainfall, and locally hail, in the central regions and locally in the south, according to a monitoring bulletin published by the National Institute of Meteorology (INM), specifying that the amounts of showers will vary between 20 and 40 mm.

According to the INM, rains are forecast, in the late night and Friday, in the northern regions, and they will be temporarily heavy in the coastal regions.

The wind will blow strongly with a speed that could temporarily reach 80 km/h in the northern regions, the uplands and the southwest, with winds carrying sand.

To face it, the ministry recommends securing equipment, agricultural machinery and greenhouses exposed to the winds. It also calls to avoid agricultural work during thunderstorm episodes and to follow the official weather bulletins.

The grain collectors are urged to store cereal harvests in appropriate places, protected from moisture and rainwater and to ensure storage spaces, transport means and tarpaulins.

Meanwhile, fishermen are urged to exercise vigilance at sea, to follow weather and navigation bulletins and to avoid any outing at sea during the winds.
