As waste management has become one of the major challenges facing large metropolitan areas, Casablanca intends to use it as a lever of transformation. With an investment exceeding 15 billion dirhams, this project ranks among the most significant ever undertaken in Morocco in this field.
With its new scale, the future center embodies a paradigm shift. It aims to move from a conventional landfill logic to an approach based on waste valorization, now regarded as a resource. This orientation aligns with the dynamics of energy transition, the promotion of a circular economy, and environmental protection.
Specifically, the infrastructure will be able to treat nearly 1.5 million tonnes of waste per year. It will integrate devices for renewable energy production from waste valorization, complemented by a photovoltaic solar park.
The project also aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as the nuisances associated with landfilling, while substantially improving the rate of waste valorization.
Carried by the City of Casablanca, this project is aligned with the 2023-2028 Municipal Action Plan, with the objective of preparing the city for future environmental challenges.
Since the start of the mandate, local authorities have focused on structural investments capable of addressing immediate needs while anticipating tomorrow’s challenges.
Now equipped with a contractual, land, and operational framework, the project enters a concrete phase of implementation. It will benefit the entire Casablanca region, as well as the communes in the provinces of Médiouna and Nouaceur, thereby strengthening territorial coherence in waste management.
