The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, began his activities this Sunday in Cairo with a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdelatty.
According to a statement from the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers welcomed the excellent level of solid and longstanding relations between the Tunisian Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt. These relations were notably crowned by the holding of the High Joint Commission, under the supervision of the two heads of government, which led to significant results in several areas, notably economic, commercial, cultural and consular.
The two ministers committed themselves to urge the institutions of the two countries to materialize these results, notably through the intensification of trade exchanges, better circulation of national products in both directions and the exploration of joint investment opportunities in Tunisia and Egypt.
They also stressed the need to develop technical cooperation between the specialized agencies of the two countries toward Islamic states, notably in Africa.
The two officials also exchanged views on several Arab and regional issues on the agenda of the 166th session of the Council of the Arab League, as well as on the need to coordinate efforts to reach consensual solutions on these dossiers.
At the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti also participated in the works of the seventh meeting of the dialogue between the technical cooperation agencies of the member states of the Islamic Development Bank.
On this occasion, the minister delivered a speech in which he recalled the Tunisian experience in mechanisms of technical cooperation with Islamic countries, engaged since the 1970s.
He underscored the interdependence between the security and developmental dimensions in establishing a genuine partnership capable of strengthening South-South cooperation and developing the expertise as well as the human capacities in the Islamic world.
In this context, Mohamed Ali Nafti welcomed the role played by the Islamic Development Bank since its creation in the mid-1970s.
The Tunisian and Egyptian ministers also presided over the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation and its Egyptian counterpart.
This accord aims to establish a framework for triangular cooperation among Southern countries, opening new prospects for a joint valorization of the Tunisian and Egyptian expertise and competencies for the benefit of Arab and African countries.
On instruction of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, will on Monday in Cairo, leading a Tunisian delegation, participate in the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level.
This session will be devoted to examining the latest developments in the Arab region, notably in the Palestinian territories, in a context marked by the continuation of attacks against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank, described as “barbaric” in the Tunisian communiqué.
The discussions will also address other Arab issues as well as the main areas of cooperation between Arab countries in development, economy, social affairs and security.
On the occasion of the Cairo meeting, Tunisia will preside the Arab League Council at the ministerial level for the period from September 2026 to March 2027.
According to the ministry, Tunisia intends to make this presidency a framework for dialogue, consultation and coordination, while supporting efforts toward Arab consensus and convergence of viewpoints, in order to strengthen the unity of the Arab position and enable a collective and responsible response to the challenges facing the region.
