SONEDE announces disruptions and outages in the distribution of drinking water for 36 hours in several areas of Greater Tunis, starting Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 1:00 a.m.

Water supply is expected to be progressively restored starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7.

The essentials

  • Start : Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 1:00 a.m.
  • Estimated duration : 36 hours.
  • Zones affected : La Marsa, Le Kram, Carthage, Cité El Khadra, La Goulette and La Soukra.
  • Progressive restoration : from 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7.
  • Emergency arrangement : 5 tanker trucks of 10 m³ each for sensitive establishments.

Why this water outage?

The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) explains that this interruption is linked to the completion of the flood protection project for the La Marsa area and to the management of the Oued Ettabek watercourse at Ibn Rachiq Street in Bhar Lazreg.

During the works, supervised by the Urban Water Directorate under the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, the presence of a main water distribution pipeline with a diameter of 1,000 mm was found along the construction route.

This pipeline hindering the continuation of the works within the scheduled timeline led to the relocation and connection being deemed necessary.

What to expect

SONEDE asks residents and affected establishments to build sufficient reserves for their essential water needs during the duration of the works.
