The City of Sciences of Tunis will organize, on Friday, October 30, a scientific day placed under the theme: “Food transition, sovereignty and innovation… Towards a sustainable future diet.” The event will take place at the Al-Khawarizmi Amphitheatre.

This day is organized on the occasion of the celebration of World Food Day, celebrated on October 16, 2026 under the slogan “Today’s innovation… tomorrow’s food.” It aims to emphasize the importance of technologies, scientific research, and traditional knowledge in the fight against climate change and the achievement of food security.

This initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of the food transition and to strengthen resilience in the face of the challenges faced by food systems. It also intends to highlight technological innovations and agroecological practices capable of preserving natural resources and ensuring their sustainability.

This event will provide an opportunity for exchange of expertise and experiences among researchers, academics, experts, representatives of specialized institutions and associations active in the sectors of agriculture, the agri-food industries and health.

It is particularly addressed to students, researchers, professionals in the agri-food industry, actors in the health sector, representatives of concerned associations as well as the general public. Participants will be invited to discuss the main challenges related to the transition to sustainable food systems, in a context marked by climate change and the worsening of environmental pressures.

The program includes lectures as well as participatory workshops and awareness-raising sessions devoted to food sovereignty, the prevention of health risks, the valorization of local products and the adoption of innovative models in agroecology. It will also address the sustainable valorization of waste and by-products from agricultural activities.

This initiative falls within the framework of the Tunis City of Science’s missions to disseminate scientific culture and popularize knowledge among the general public. It is organized in partnership with several scientific institutions, notably the National Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INNTA), the Higher School of Food Industries of Tunis (ESIAT), the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Tunisia (INRAT), the National Gene Bank (BNG), as well as the Tunisian Environment Network (RET).

This partnership aims to better raise awareness of the requirements of the transition of food systems and the means of preserving natural resources.
