SONEDE has halted an emergency program to strengthen the supply of drinking water during the summer of 2027. The Ministry of Agriculture details the regional interventions in response to a parliamentary question.

In Greater Tunis, five interventions are planned: the construction of three pumping stations as well as drilling, electrification and the equipment of two wells to strengthen water resources in Mornag. In the North, the program includes 19 interventions, mainly aimed at consolidating supply systems through new wells or their connection.

In the Center, nine areas are to benefit from improved service. SONEDE plans to acquire and lay 20 kilometers of pipelines, install 12 pumps and equip four pumping stations with standby pumps. The ministry also notes that the commissioning of the Sidi Abdelhamid desalination plant should improve resources destined for Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia.

In the South, the program includes 43 interventions. It provides notably for the construction, electrification, equipment and connection of 29 deep wells in the different governorates, particularly in areas fully supplied by groundwater.

These interventions are part of a multi-year strategy that combines securing water supply for cities, development of major rural infrastructure, reduction of losses in networks and the energy transition. It includes water transfer from the North, storage, desalination and rehabilitation of networks.

On the energy side, SONEDE aims for a 15% improvement in the energy efficiency of its production and pumping facilities by 2030. It also plans to bring renewable energies to 30% of its total energy consumption by 2035. These are announced objectives, distinct from the results already achieved.
