A new serious incident involving an individual taxi driver occurred in recent days in the Denden region, reigniting the debate on the safety of sector professionals.
In a statement given to Tunisie Numérique, Nader Kazdaghli, president of the Basic Union of Individual Taxis, reported a knife-point robbery targeting a taxi driver during the night.
According to information provided by the union, the driver was assaulted by an individual armed with a knife. The attacker is said to have threatened the driver before stealing his personal belongings as well as his vehicle.
In his statement, our interlocutor underscored that the number of assaults against individual taxi drivers has shown a notable increase in recent months.
« The professionals in the sector are working under increasingly dangerous conditions. Attacks are multiplying, particularly during night hours », he warned.
In response to this escalation, the Basic Union of Individual Taxis calls on the authorities to enforce the installation of CCTV cameras aboard taxis, mirroring certain public transport systems already equipped.
The union also called for tougher prosecutions against offenders and for strict enforcement of the law against perpetrators of assaults.
