Eid Outfits: Should You Budget More This Year? [Video]

As Eid al-Fitr approaches, a question returns to many Tunisian families: should they plan a larger budget for festive outfits this year?

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, the president of the Tunisian Organization for Consumer Guidance, Lotfi Riahi, revealed that the prices of Eid outfits have risen by between 10% and 12% compared to the previous year.

Concretely, this means that a family head who had planned 100 dinars last year will have to spend between 110 and 112 dinars this year for the same purchases.

He noted that prices remain high, and this, despite coinciding with the sales period.

According to him, this situation is explained in particular by the fact that foreign brands operating under franchise agreements are increasingly dominating the Tunisian market, without real technology transfer or significant integration of local labor or local raw materials.

Facing this reality, he called for better supervision of the sector, through a revision of the laws, in order to :

  • lower prices,

  • protect the purchasing power of consumers,

  • and further encourage Tunisian-made products.
