According to figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, in July 2026, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area stood at 6.4%, unchanged from June 2026 but higher than the 6.3% recorded in July 2025.
In the European Union (EU), the unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in July 2026, also unchanged compared with June 2026 and higher than 6.0% in July 2025.
Eurostat estimates that 13.516 million people were unemployed in the EU in July 2026, of whom 11.264 million were in the euro area.
Compared with June 2026, the number of unemployed people fell by 41,000 in the EU, while it remained unchanged in the euro area. Compared with July 2025, unemployment rose by 296,000 people in the EU and by 175,000 in the euro area.
In July 2026, 2.930 million young people under 25 were unemployed in the EU, of which 2.371 million were in the euro area.
The youth unemployment rate stood at 15.1% in the EU in July 2026, compared with 15.6% the previous month. In the euro area, it reached 14.9%, compared with 15.0% in June 2026.
Compared with June 2026, youth unemployment fell by 98,000 in the EU and by 26,000 in the euro area.
Compared with July 2025, the number of young unemployed increased by 29,000 in the EU and by 40,000 in the euro area.
