The inflation rate in France rose to 2.4% year-on-year in August, up from 2.1% in July, mainly due to higher energy prices.
The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) indicated, in data published this Friday, that energy prices had increased by 16.7% year-on-year in August, compared with 12.6% in July.
The Institute also noted that prices of food products had risen by 1.1% year-on-year, after a 1% increase in July. This development is notably explained by the acceleration of fresh produce prices, up 5.8%, compared with 3.8% the previous month.
Moreover, the decline in prices of manufactured goods moderated, with a decrease of 0.4% year-on-year, versus 0.7% in July. The rise in prices of services, meanwhile, slowed to 2%, versus 2.2% the previous month.
Over a month, inflation rose by 0.7%, after a 0.6% increase in July. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used to compare price developments between euro area countries, also rose to reach 2.7% year-on-year, up from 2.4% in July.
