The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries indicated this Sunday that the central and regional services of the General Directorate of Forests are monitoring the evolution of the situation in forest areas with the utmost vigilance, in a context marked by an exceptional heatwave.
According to the ministry, the sharp rise in temperatures has been accompanied by a resurgence of forest fires in several regions of the country, requiring increased mobilization of all stakeholders in order to protect the natural resources, regarded as a strategic national heritage.
Call for prudence in forest areas
In a statement devoted to combating forest fires during periods of intense heat, the General Directorate of Forests stressed the need to observe the highest rules of prudence and vigilance, as weather conditions remain challenging.
It urged residents in areas located near forests, along with visitors and users of these spaces, to adopt responsible behavior and to avoid any practice likely to trigger a fire start.
The citizens are also invited to immediately report to local authorities any suspicious movement or any sign indicating a possible fire outbreak.
Strengthening the coordination of interventions
The General Directorate of Forests emphasized that the effectiveness of on-the-ground interventions mainly rests on close operational coordination among all concerned parties.
This coordination must in particular involve regional disaster response commissions, local authorities and components of civil society.
The administration also called for activating preventive emergency plans to ensure a rapid response and to flexibly mobilize the human and logistical resources necessary to protect the affected ecosystems.
A shared national responsibility
The ministry recalled that the protection of natural and environmental heritage constitutes a collective national responsibility.
