As Tunisia’s third opponents in Group F of the World Cup, the Netherlands concluded their preparations with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Uzbekistan on Monday in New York.
Despite Gakpo’s opening goal from a penalty (32nd minute) and being reduced to ten after Til’s sending-off (87th minute), the Dutch were even caught up in stoppage time by Sergeev (90e+2). But Gakpo ultimately secured the victory for the Oranje with a second penalty in the final seconds (90e+8).
Alongside Tunisia, Sweden and Japan, the Oranje remain among the favorites of their group but approach the tournament with more questions than certainties, especially after a defeat to Algeria.
In search of certainties after their defeat to Ivory Coast (1-2) on Thursday, and for their final warm-up match before the 2026 World Cup, the France team defeated Northern Ireland (3-1) this Monday evening in Lille.
