The Ministry of Women, Family, Childhood and Seniors indicated that the toll-free number 1899, dedicated to listening, guidance, and support for women victims of violence, received 7,397 reports during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025, of which 4,485 concern cases of violence against women.
These details appear in the ministry’s response to a written question addressed by Deputy Meriem Cherif, a member of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, concerning statistics related to women victims of violence, notably in the governorate of La Manouba, the assessment of Organic Law No. 58 of 2017 relating to the elimination of violence against women, as well as the strategy adopted by the ministry to reduce this phenomenon and strengthen the care provided to this vulnerable category, according to information published on the Parliament’s official website.
As part of implementing the provisions of Law No. 58 and the fight against violence against women, the ministry has implemented an action plan based mainly on the National Strategy for Awareness against violence toward women and girls, including in the digital space.
This strategy was rolled out into eight sectoral plans in partnership with the relevant ministries, including Education, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Cultural Affairs, Information and Communication Technologies, and Social Affairs.
The ministry also launched, in November 2024, the national program “Prevention and Protection,” which is set to continue throughout the year. This program, based on a participatory approach, aims to strengthen the resilience of families and society in the face of various forms of violence, vulnerability and social disintegration, through the intensification of field action.
Within this framework, nearly 500 regional awareness activities were organized across all governorates, in partnership with the relevant public structures, notably educational, cultural and health establishments. These actions focused on promoting family values, strengthening social cohesion, preventing violence, as well as psychological and health support.
Furthermore, the ministry has strengthened the operation of the toll-free number 1899 to ensure a continuous 24/7 service, guaranteeing safe and confidential initial care for women victims of violence. This system offers an integrated range of services including listening, frontline psychological support, legal guidance and referral to specialized structures. It also includes shelters for women victims of violence and their children, ensuring reception, listening, orientation and accommodation. The number of these centers currently stands at 16, with a total capacity of 218 beds.
The ministry has also begun the revision of Decree No. 582 of 2020 relating to the terms of reference for centers that take in women and children victims of violence.
Finally, several programs supporting women without family support or in vulnerable situations were recalled, including the “Samida” program for the economic and social insertion of women victims of violence, the national program for the economic insertion of women and girls working in the agricultural sector and the women’s agricultural groups, the program for the economic insertion of mothers of pupils at risk of dropping out, as well as the “Raedat” program.
