Northwest Tunisia: The Driving Force Behind Tourism Investments in 2025

Written by: Adel Khelifi on February 14, 2026

The future of tourism in northwestern Tunisia is heading toward a sustainable model, focused on ecotourism, adventure, and heritage, to diversify the national offering and reduce dependence on coastal tourism.

This region leverages its green landscapes, national parks, hiking trails, and historical sites, creating opportunities for mountain tourism and green tourism. Tunisia’s potential as a destination for travelers seeking adventure, culture, and ecological diversity remains relatively untapped.

A flagship project is transforming the Northwest

In the ever-evolving landscape of the tourism sector, this represents an opportunity to reposition Tunisia’s offering to international visitors. By reducing its dependence on coastal tourism, Tunisia will have the chance to stimulate businesses in the sector, particularly in the northwestern regions.

The Jendouba region stands out as the main driving force of this expansion. A flagship project there mobilizes 300 million dinars, illustrating the promoters’ ambition to develop internationally high-quality infrastructures. This achievement alone will generate 600 direct jobs, contributing significantly to local economic growth.

The creation of job opportunities fits into a broader dynamic: the tourism sector plans to welcome more than 1 700 new hires across the country this year. This wave of recruitment testifies to tourism’s ability to act as a stable and structuring employer for the national economy.

The metamorphosis of Jendouba perfectly illustrates how a region historically on the margins of main tourist circuits can become a magnet for national and foreign capital.

Investors’ confidence regained

The government’s commitment catalyzes this positive dynamic through the labeling of national-interest projects in Tunis and Jendouba. These major projects account for more than 450 million dinars in public and private investment. This state involvement sends a strong signal to financial markets: Tunisia now has a favorable institutional framework for large-scale tourism undertakings.

The spectacular 238% increase in investments compared to 2024 reveals a deep transformation in perceptions. Economic operators are reconnecting with the Tunisian destination, convinced by the stability of the legal framework and the quality of returns on investment. This upswing demonstrates that the country has the necessary assets to attract partners keen on developing hotel and leisure infrastructures of international standing.

The Tunisian tourism sector is experiencing a notable economic revival in 2025. Investments dedicated to this branch reached 645 million dinars, or 8% of total national investment according to the latest statistics from the TIA. This performance marks a strong comeback for a sector strategic to the country’s economy, driven by structural initiatives and a clear political will to modernize the national tourism offer.
