Oued Ellil: Seizure of 2.5 Tons of Fodder Barley Destined for the Parallel Market

An economic control team under the regional directorate of Trade and Export Development of La Manouba, in collaboration with agents of the La Manouba municipal guard, seized this Tuesday 25 quintaux, or 2.5 tonnes, of forage barley from a point of sale of strategic livestock feeds (hay and barley) located in El Maâzia, in the Oued Ellil delegation.

This seizure follows a violation related to the conduct of commercial operations through fraudulent means, the regional directorate of Trade told the Tunis Afrique Presse agency.

This operation occurred after it was established that the manager of the point of sale deliberately increased his share of forage barley and then ground it in order to dispose of it in parallel circuits, in order to realize illicit profits, while refusing to sell it in its current state to his farmer customers.

The same sources specified that the seized quantity will be reinjected into the legal distribution circuits, that its financial value will be paid to the Public Treasury, and that the judicial procedures will be finalized against the merchandise owner for the offense of conducting commercial operations by fraudulent means, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 36 of 2015 relating to the reform of competition and prices.
