Thunderstorm rains have left highly uneven rainfall accumulations in Tunisia over the past 24 hours. According to the report published Saturday, September 12, 2026 by the National Meteorology Institute (INM), the largest amounts were recorded in the western part of the country, notably in the Kef and Kasserine governorates.
What to note
The highest total reaches 43 mm at Kalâat Khasba, in the Kef governorate. Haïdra follows with 35 mm, then Kalâat Senan with 32 mm. INM also reported hailfalls in Sbeïtla, Haïdra and Foussana.

Behind this leading group, INM notes notably 9 mm at Oued Mellègue in Kef and Menzel Bouzaiane in the Sidi Bouzid governorate, as well as 8 mm at Tajerouine. El Battan, in Manouba, and Boumhel, in the Ben Arous governorate, registered 7 mm.
Kef and Kasserine concentrate the heaviest rains
The report shows a very clear concentration of the most significant precipitation in the western regions. By themselves, several Kef and Kasserine stations occupy the top of the national rankings.
By contrast, accumulations remained much more modest in Greater Tunis and on parts of the coastal regions. Tunis-Carthage recorded only 1 mm, while Bizerte recorded 6 mm. In the Nabeul governorate, the amounts listed in the bulletin generally range between 1 and 4 mm.
Hail and strong wind gusts
Precipitation was also locally accompanied by marked storm phenomena. INM reports hail in Sbeïtla, Haïdra and Foussana.
Strong gusts were also measured, with a maximum speed of 83 km/h noted. Winds also reached 80 km/h in Thala and 63 km/h in Gafsa.
These readings come after the follow-up bulletin published the day before by the INM, which had announced sometimes heavy rains and accumulations locally reaching between 30 and 50 mm, notably in the Kef, Siliana and Kasserine governorates.
