The fourth edition of the International Energy Transition Trade Show (SITE 2026) opened on Thursday in Tunis. It comes as the share of renewables in electricity production remains far below the target set for 2030.
The fair is held at the headquarters of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicraft (UTICA) until October 3, 2026. It brings together more than 60 Tunisian and foreign companies as well as 10 start-ups specializing in energy transition technologies, according to TAP news agency.
An objective of 35% by 2030
Tunisia aims for about 35% of electricity production from renewable sources by 2030.
However, according to the latest data available from the National Observatory of Energy and Mines, renewable-energy electricity production did not exceed 9.2% of total production as of the end of June 2026.
The installed photovoltaic capacity is estimated at around 630 MW, including nearly 500 MW in the residential sector and about 130 MW in medium and high voltage, in industry, services and agriculture.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, total installed renewable-energy capacity reached 1,163 MW by the end of July 2026.
700 participants and 2,500 visitors expected
Organized at the initiative of the Photovoltaic Syndicate Chamber under UTICA, in partnership with STEG and the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), the fair is under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy. Its theme is “Investing and Innovating to Accelerate the Energy Transition.”
Delegations from Italy, Germany, Libya and other countries are taking part. The organizers expect more than 700 participants, professionals and guests, and about 2,500 visitors over three days.
Six international conferences and B2B meetings
The program includes six international conferences bringing together government authorities, public institutions, experts, professionals and financial institutions.
They will notably address the Tunisian energy transition strategy, major sector projects, renewables and storage, the mainstreaming of solar across small and medium-sized enterprises and consumers, electric mobility, the carbon tax, smart grids and green hydrogen.
The last day will be devoted to an information day where companies will present their solutions, particularly for solar, insurance and project financing. B2B meetings between companies, investors, financial institutions and experts are also planned.
