Professor Slim Loghmani swore in last Thursday at the seat of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, Germany, in the capacity of judge of this jurisdiction, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Berlin as well as delegations from the diplomatic mission in Berlin and from the consular mission in Hamburg, according to a statement published on a platform under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Slim Loghmani had been elected to this post for the period 2026-2035, on June 18, 2026, during the 36th meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
According to the statement, this election is intended to strengthen Tunisian presence within major international organizations and bodies and to reaffirm Tunisia’s commitment to international legality and the rule of law. It also reflects the scientific and academic recognition enjoyed by Tunisian legal professionals, both in Tunisia and abroad.
The statement recalls that the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea was established in 1996. It is an independent judiciary established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Tunisia joined this convention in 1985, after officially depositing its instrument of ratification with the United Nations on April 24, 1985.
