The Tunisian Court of Cassation decided, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, to reject all appeals filed against the judgments rendered on appeal in the case known as the “conspiracy against state security 2”.
This decision follows the sentences pronounced by the specialized criminal chamber in terrorism cases at the Court of Appeal of Tunis, with penalties ranging from 3 to 35 years in prison, and, for some convicted individuals, an additional five years of administrative surveillance.
Convictions up to 20 years for several defendants
Among the persons prosecuted in this case is Rached Ghannouchi, leader of the Ennahdha movement, sentenced to 20 years in prison, as is Kamel Bedoui.
The two former security officials, Mehrez Zouari and Abdelkrim Abidi, were each sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The appellate court had also handed down 15-year prison terms for Fathi Beldi and Samir Hannachi.
35-year sentences handed down in absentia
In the framework of this same case, the criminal chamber specialized in terrorism cases at the Court of Appeal of Tunis had issued in absentia 35-year prison sentences, with immediate execution, against several fugitives.
Among those concerned are Nadia Akacha, Kamel Guizani, Mouadh Ghannouchi, Lotfi Zitoun, Rafik Bouchlaka and Abdelkader Ben Farhat, as well as other defendants.
The rejection of all appeals by the Court of Cassation maintains the judgments rendered on appeal in this case.
