A limited Cabinet meeting was held this Wednesday at the Government Palace in the Kasbah, chaired by Prime Minister Ms. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri.

This meeting was dedicated to monitoring the progress of several major strategic projects intended to be programmed under the Development Plan 2026-2030.

Among the projects presented is the one aiming to connect the Tunis-Carthage International Airport to the city center via the rail transport network.

According to the route proposed by the Tunis Transportation Company (Transtu), this project will be carried out in three phases :

  • Phase One: the route begins from Avenue de la République toward Dora El Bahira, then toward the Tunis-Carthage International Airport, spanning a length of 8 km.
  • Phase Two: Dora El Bahira – Le Kram Ville (Khéreddine service zone), over a length of 10 km.
  • Phase Three: Jardins de Carthage – Ain Zaghouan – El Bahr El Azraq (Mongi Slim Hospital), over a length of 4 km.

To ensure Transtu can maintain the availability of its fleet for operating the existing rail network and the new line serving the Tunis-Carthage International Airport, the company launched a procurement process for 30 new metro trains.

As part of the program to promote urban rail transport, rehabilitation of 80 trains was also planned, along with heavy maintenance of 55 trains, and the acquisition of 15 new metro trains.
