The examining judge at the Tunis Court of First Instance authorized, this Monday, September 7, 2026, the extension of an additional 48 hours of the journalist Mohamed Yousfi’ custody, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The measure was granted to the officers of the Central Brigade for the Fight Against Complex Financial Crimes of the National Guard in El Aouina.
A detention in police custody ordered on September 4
The investigating judge in charge of the case at the Judicial Economic and Financial Pole had ordered, on the evening of Friday, September 4, the placement of Mohamed Yousfi in police custody.
According to the information released, the investigation concerns suspicions of illicit enrichment and money laundering.
At this stage of the procedure, these allegations are the subject of investigations and do not preclude the liability of the person concerned.
A judicial investigation opened
The public prosecutor at the Judicial Economic and Financial Pole of the Tunis Court of First Instance has also ordered the opening of a judicial investigation targeting Mohamed Yousfi as well as any other person who may be identified by the investigation.
The charges targeted in this procedure, according to the available information, concern the formation of an arrangement to harm persons and property, illicit enrichment and money laundering carried out habitually within the framework of an organization or conspiracy.
The investigation also concerns the possible use of facilities related to a position or to a professional and social activity, as well as potential illicit financial flows from which the person involved may have benefited through an association.
The judicial investigation continues in order to establish the facts and any responsibilities.
