The National Institute of Meteorology (INM) published, this Sunday, August 30, 2026, a monitoring bulletin announcing a deterioration of weather in several regions of Tunisia, with thunderstorm cells, sometimes heavy rainfall, localized hail, and strong gusts of wind.
According to the INM, the situation will mainly affect the North and the Center of the country in the afternoon, before gradually reaching the eastern regions.
Up to 40 mm in Siliana, Le Kef and Kasserine
The rains could be locally heavy, particularly in the governorates of Siliana, Le Kef and Kasserine.
The largest accumulations should be between 20 and 40 millimeters, the Institute notes.
Local hail showers could also accompany the thunderstorm cells.
Gusts temporarily exceeding 70 km/h
The INM also warns of a temporary strengthening of the wind as the storms pass.
Gusts could temporarily exceed 70 km/h, particularly during the formation and passage of the thunderstorm clouds.
These phenomena could therefore be locally quite marked, even if not all affected regions will experience the same intensity.
The storms could continue on Monday
The unstable situation is expected to persist.
For the afternoon of Monday, August 31, 2026, conditions will remain favorable for the formation of thunderclouds accompanied locally by rain in the North and Center.
The National Institute of Meteorology invites monitoring of the evolution of the situation and updates to its weather bulletins.
