Young Doctors Organization Calls for a Sit-In in Sfax

The president of the Tunisian Organization of Young Doctors, Wajih Dhakkar, affirmed the commitment of young doctors to pay tribute to the late doctor Jad El Hanchiri, former president and founder of the organization, by naming one of the amphitheaters at the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax after him, where he pursued his academic training.

In a statement given this Tuesday to the Tunis Afrique Presse agency, Dhakkar indicated that this request ran into delays and procrastination on the part of the administration of the Sfax Faculty, despite the approval of the Scientific Council, which sparked strong discontent among the young doctors. He announced, in this regard, the organization of a protest sit-in, on Saturday morning, March 28, in the hall of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax.

He specified that the organization had submitted, a year earlier, a request to the faculty services to honor Jad El Hanchiri on the occasion of the second anniversary of his death, in homage to his militant journey and to his contributions in defending the right to a quality public health, as well as in preserving the excellence of medical training in Tunisia.

It should be recalled that Jad El Hanchiri, who died on March 29, 2024 and was born in 1987, is the founder of the Tunisian Organization of Young Doctors. He was known in medical circles for his commitment to public health and for his struggles, within the organization, in defense of the rights of interns and residents, as well as for improving their working conditions.
