This Monday, the Minister of National Defense, Khaled Sehili, received in Tunis the commander of the American naval forces in Africa and Europe, Admiral George M. Wikoff, in the presence of the United States ambassador to Tunisia and senior military officials of the two countries.

The discussions highlighted the strength of the cooperative relations between Tunisia and the United States, notably within the framework of the bilateral military program and the 2020–2030 roadmap.

This partnership covers several areas, including training, exercises, logistical support and joint exercises. The two sides also discussed strengthening the Tunisian naval capabilities and the preparation of special forces.

Tunisia expressed its ambition to create a center of excellence dedicated to elite naval forces, to strengthen its regional role, notably through multinational exercises such as “Phoenix Express”.

On the American side, the United States praised the quality of military cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing support for the capabilities of the Tunisian Navy.
